Productivity and Quality Improvement Programme (PQIP)
One of the key factors of growth for any organization is increase in productivity. Productivity improvement depends on deliberate initiatives of management to identify and reduce or eliminate waste. As advocated by Taiichi Ohno, the father of Toyota Production System:

“Waste is a crime against society more than a business loss”.

Ohno talked about three different types of waste. He used the Japanese words: Muri, waste through unreasonableness; Mura, waste through inconsistency; and Muda, waste through outcomes.

The objective of Productivity and Quality Improvement Programme (PQIP) is to assist organisations to indentify, reduce and eliminate Muri, Mura and Muda by using the PDCA cycle. A PQIP in an organanisation is implemented in 3 phases for organizations namely,:

  • Analysis
  • Training and
  • Implementation.

For a PQIP to be successful, a firm commitment of top management along with a cross functional team is required. Training for PQIP is essentially in-plant and involves the cross-functional team who has to identify key problems on the Gemba (workplace) and apply the PDCA cycle with the support of NPCC consultants. We assist in the implementation phase and also in the drafting of reports on the project using A3 sheets where applicable.
